Dead Before Dawn and L4d2

Dead Before Dawn and L4d2

Postby Prinny » Thu Nov 19, 2009 8:58 pm

As a warning before i get into this topic, yes i know the campaign was only made to be compatable with l4d1, versus is still not done, and neither is the finale.

Does it work? Yes
Missing textures? A ton (textures from l4d1, all/most custom textures work)
events not going off? No events work fine.
Missing models? A ton (models from l4d1, all/most custom models work)

As i said it is playable, works just fine if you can ignore the missing textures and wireframes.

My only main issue with the compatibility comes with the calling of L4d1's uncommon common. Aka the military common, hospital, etc. They move like zombies, sound like zombies, but look and collide with the player models like giant ERROR signs. If you are not carefull though you can get trapped by them. You can croutch jump on them, and walk on them, but if you kill 1 in a doorframe SOL, unless you can noclip.

Weapons, ammo, health kits, pills, etc spawn just fine. Additionally baseball bats do spawn in the safe rooms.

Not sure if anyone else tried it and I just wanted to share my findings. Maybe i can get a youtube video of it later.

I played Dead Before Dawn using a few modded files and the L4D1 paks renamed and put into L4D2. Once you rebuild your soundcache it works almost just as good as it would in l4d1 and you can get the uncommon commons plus a few melee weapons spawning from L4D2.

Sounds cool, can you share the files you added or make instructions so i can use DBD in l4d2 until the DBD group makes an official l4d2 copy of their campaign? (if or when that is)

One Question, will it be importet to L4D2 until the authoring tools are public? How much time does it need? And does we need L4D1 for it ?

I just have L4D2 and if i gonna need L4D1 if you got the AT for L4D2 it would be really bad =/

It will be ported to L4D2, that's for sure. I don't know if you'll need L4D1, it depends on how much L4D1 stuff they've got in there and if they are gonna keep it or replace it with L4D2 stuff. We'll see.

Shouldn't the Add-on stuff make it unnecessary to update assets now?
