Over and over, Valve underestimates the skill of the Source Engine modders. They release a demo for us, try their very best to keep us from diggin in deep into the engine to unlock features that Valve doesn't want us to see...yet. Once again, a modder has stuck his head into the inner workings of Left 4 Dead 2 and unlocked versus mode for us all to enjoy. Dedicated modder Saul created a plugin that allows anyone to play Versus Mode with anyone from anywhere. No extra downloading needed if you join a game in Versus Mode, just a simple command you type into console. If you want to host a versus game however, you will need to download a simple 80kb file and use a few commands to get you started. Keep reading for more screenshots and instructions on how to get this working.
This plugin works with Single Player, Dedicated Servers and Local Servers. Here's what you gotta do:
First, download the plugin, then:
- Extract the ZIP to \Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2 demo\left4dead2
- Start up Left 4 Dead 2 Demo
- Get a game going in Single Player or Online.
- Type the following into console:
plugin_cvar sb_all_bot_team 1
plugin_allow_remote_commands 1 - To become Infected, type the following into console:
set_infected 1 - To change back to survivor, type the following:
set_infected 0 - You can force a client in your server to be infected/survivor by using:
plugin_set_infected <their userid> <0 = make survivor, 1 = make infected> - Don't want your clients to be able to make themselves infected and manually spawn? Then use the following command:
plugin_allow_remote_commands 0 - If you want your clients to spawn themselves by using infected_spawn, and to disable auto-respawning, use this command:
plugin_infected_autorespawn 0
